We just wrapped up a drawing boot camp. I decided to use one point perspective as the culminating project.

Contour Drawing
As a part of our drawing boot camp, we are working on becoming better at drawing from observation. This contour triptych is doing the trick! Students completed three sketches each using blind contour, modified contour, and cross contour techniques. They then chose the best sketches to use as the basis for their final panels. This exercise helped students to draw what they see, not what they think they see!

Drawing Lesson Kickoff Activity 2
This is another short activity I used to kick off a unit on drawing with my 7/8th grade classes.
Materials:
Index cards with designs drawn on them
Paper and pencil
Procedure:
One student is the described and one is the drawer.
The describer has an index card with a design on it. He must describe the index card to the drawer, who tries to draw what is on the card (without seeing it). Students switch roles with new cards.
This is a great compliment to the other drawing activity, as you can have the students compare the two experiences.
